MORE ABOUT SPIDERS

About Black & Yellow Garden Spiders

The Garden Spider is known for its striking black and yellow markings on its abdomen. It builds large, circular webs in gardens and meadows. It is an orb-weaver, which means it spins a wheel-shaped web to catch flying insects.

Its webs are usually around two feet in diameter and can be seen from quite a distance. The spider is usually found in sunny, open areas, where its bright colors will stand out against the Ontario green foliage. It feeds mainly on flies, bees, and other small insects.

The common house spider is a small brown spider commonly found indoors. It constructs messy, irregular webs in corners and crevices. Its body is usually light brown, but it may have dark patches or stripes on its abdomen. The common house spider feeds primarily on insects that it catches in its web.

They seek solace in shadowy, hidden spaces; sneaking into corners, lurking beneath cupboards, burrowing deep in basements, occasionally lurking in garages and lurking around windows, a bustling haven for flies.

About Bold Jumping Spiders

The bold jumping spider are small and agile, known for their jumping ability. They have black bodies with white or iridescent markings, often seen on walls or around windows. Bold jumping spiders are active hunters that use their excellent eyesight to search for prey. They have the ability to jump up to six times their body length, enabling them to quickly snatch up insects or other small creatures.

In addition to their remarkable jumping skills, these spiders also possess venom to paralyze their prey before eating them.

While less common, Brown Recluse Spiders have been found in the Windsor and Chatham area. These spiders have a violin-shaped marking on their cephalothorax and prefer dark, undisturbed areas.

They can be found in basements, closets, and other dark spaces. If disturbed, they will bite and their venom can be harmful. It is important to be aware of this spider if you live in the area, and to take precautions to avoid contact with them.
